NEW People’s Army guerrillas staged a daring attack against soldiers in Gingoog City and Claveria town in Misamis Oriental on Tuesday.

Senior Insp. Arlyne Ranario, spokesperson of the Misamis Oriental police, said three NPA rebels attacked the patrol base of the 58th Infantry Battalion in Purok 1, Barangay Minalwang in Claveria at around 5:40 am Tuesday.

Ranario said the rebels fired a hail of bullets at the soldiers camp.

She added that the rebels left after a two-minute gunfight. No soldier was hurt, Ranario said.

On the same day, at around 6:40 pm, soldiers from 58th Infantry Battalion and militiamen were also attacked by suspected Maoist guerrillas.

Ranario said at least six NPA rebels attacked the base in Sitio Palo, Barangay Hindangon in Gingoog City.

She said the attack resulted in a 25-minute gunfight adding that the rebels withdrew without wounding or killing any soldier of the base camp.

Ranario said the provincial police office is currently investigating the twin attacks. (Nitz Arancon)
