City police director Senior Supt. Nelson Aganon on Monday asked more financial aid from city hall, saying additional support would boost the local police’s anti-crime campaign.

Aganon spoke before the city council and briefed local legislators about the how the police have been keeping the city peaceful and orderly despite threats of terrorism.

But Aganon said can no longer carry out substantial police operations or step up the “war on illegal drugs” due to budgetary constraints.

“If the city will give additional funds for police operations, then the police can complete its task of really safeguarding the city. Right now, we are operating within our means,” Aganon said.

In the past two years, city hall set aside P2.7 million to increase Cocpo’s fuel supply. Agaonon said the P2.7 million city aid for this year has already been drained out.

For 2019, the proposed budget for Cocpo has been increased to P5.9 million, enough to provide police units at least 10 liters of fuel each day.

Aganon said Cocpo needs more fuel because the city police’s vehicles were increased. The Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. alone gave Cocpo 16 motorcycles for patrol cops.

Aganon asked the city council for a supplemental budget for police operations of P1.307 million.

He also sought for financial incentives amounting to P644,000 for Cocpo’s Anti-Drug Abuse Program covering the period of from January to July.
