Butuan City — The Department of Transportation (DOTR) Caraga Region revealed that in just eight months their revenue for 2018 from anti “colorum” or unregistered public utility vehicles campaign has peaked at around P7.3 million.

Data from the DOTR Caraga Regional office pointed out that a total of P7,295,833.38 was collected from the fines of 155 apprehended colorum vehicles as of 2018 compared to zero collection of 2017.

Maria Kristina E. Cassion, officer-in-charge chief of operations division of DOTR Caraga stated that their achievement is based on implementing strict regulations.

Cassion said their records show that since March 26, they have recorded a volume of apprehension on colorum vehicles.

“(It is) sad to say, colorum operations were tolerated during the past management,” said Cassion.

She explained that the latest peak in apprehensions could be attributed to her order to enforcers not to honor any protectors of colorum operators.

The fine for colorum buses plying in the region, she said, is pegged at P1 million, illegal vans at P200 thousand, and colorum jeepneys at P50 thousand.

“The fines and penalties are stated in Chapter IV of the Department of Transportation and Communications Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01,” said Cassion.

Majority of the apprehended colorum vehicles came from van operators, which is about 97, then 29 from jeepneys and multicabs, 16 buses, 12 trucks, and a single taxi.
