COUNCILOR Leon Gan belied reports that ex-mayor Vicente Emano underwent internal surgery due to complications in the stomach.

A statement released by the capitol’s press office, quoting Gan, revealed that Emano had problems with his “heart veins” and that foreign particles had to be removed. It said Emano’s heart now is “good as new.”

Gan, vice president of Padayon Pilipino, said Emano did not undergo internal surgery but only a mere general check-up this June.

Gan’s pronouncements contradicted the statements of his partymate and fellow Emano follower, ex-councilor Alexander Dacer, who disclosed last week that the former mayor had undergone an operation in the stomach at the Capitol University Medical City in Gusa and that he was confined there for three days in June.

A press statement sent to this paper over the weekend reads in part: “It was fortunate for the Emano family that the father of Padayon Pilipino agreed to undertake medical examinations following fears of his body condition. The former Cagayan de Oro mayor would not want medical check-ups previously.”

Gan said Emano was confined in the hospital for several days not for a major operation but for him to understand how important medical check-up was for his health condition.

Gan said after several medical procedures, doctors have said Emano’s heart condition is “now good as new and is cleared from complications after enduring one-day blockade removal of foreign particles in his heart veins.”

Quoting Gan, capitol spokesperson Nicole Managbanag said, “Naa siya medicine gipainum sa iya doctor arun mawala ang nag-block sa artery.”

“Wala gyud to gi agi ug knife surgery,” said Gan. “Dugay ra man to. Pero dili kadto operasyon.”

Gan said he could not fathom why Emano’s hospital confinement was reported, adding that he hoped it had nothing to do with the upcoming elections in May 2019. It was former councilor Dacer who volunteered the information about Emano’s hospital confinement in June.

Gan assured the public that the founder of Padayon Pilipino “is in great shape and is not suffering from any illness, ready for his political battle.”

Emano filed his certificate of candidacy for vice mayor this Oct. 17. He will be the running mate of Jose Gabriel La Viña in next year’s elections. (PR)
