PRESIDENT Duterte has named the country’s 25th Chief Justice: Lucas Bersamin.
Duterte signed Bersamin’s appointment on Monday, Nov. 26, showed a one-page document from Malacañang.
Over ANC yesterday afternoon, Bersamin addressed the nation after he took his oath of office before Acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio who served as caretaker of the judiciary after the retirement of Chief Justice Teresita de Castro.
Bersamin and de Castro were among the justices who voted in favor of a petition by the solicitor general that questioned the validity of the then President Benigno Aquino’s appointment of Maria Lourdes Sereno to the position of Chief Justice.
