A BUSINESSWOMAN died while her companion was hurt after their vehicle and a truck collided on the highway in Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental, on Saturday.

Senior Insp. Vermil Alinas identified the businesswoman as Jacklyn Sao Malabanan and the injured as Cosain Waida Amir, both from Lakitan, Madamba, Lanao del Sur.

Alinas said the victims were in a Toyota Hilux pick-up truck with license plates STE-6315. They were Cagayan de Oro-bound and came from Lanao del Sur.

Alinas quoted witnesses as saying that the pick-up truck driven by Cosain was rammed by a beer truck as it suddenly turned near Lohas Hotel.

Both vehicles plunged into a 10-meter deep ravine.

Malabanan was rushed to the Owwa hospital where she subsequently died while Cosain was rushed to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) where he is struggling for life at presstime.

Alinas said the truck driver, identified as Elbert Mangayan of Tubigan, Initao, Misamis Oriental, surrendered to the Laguindingan police where he is awaiting charges at presstime.
