THE city council’s trade and commerce committee will take another look at  the Integrated Ecological Solid Waste Management Ordinance because of some concerns raised by the business sector here.

“Dunay concern especially on the information dissemination on the kind of plastics that are being regulated,” said Councilor George Goking, the committee’s chairman.

City hall has started implementing strict regulations on the use of plastics. For starters, it has focused on plastic bags being provided by vendors and stores.

Goking said the committee would meet on Wednesday and ask the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro) to brief councilors about the initial implementation of City Ordinance No. 13378.

He said the committee wants to be clarified on the penalties, and on the  implementating rules and regulations to avoid legal complications later on.

“Dako gihapon kaayo nga problema kining transparent cellophanes kay ginagamit kini halos sa tanan purpose, and then disposable ra ba kini unya maoy ginalabay sa kadaplinan,” Goking said.

Another concern, according to Goking, are the prices and unregulated selling of so-called “ecobags.”

“Sa una nga wala pa’y implementation barato ra kayo apan karon ilang kalit nga gimahalan,” Goking said.

He said the committee has asked representatives of the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Misamis Oriental Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, United Market Vendors’ Association, and other concerned groups to attend the meeting.

Also invited are representatives of city hall’s Regulatory and Complaints Board, the City Price Control Council, and the Department of Trade and Industry office in Misamis Oriental. (Lito Rulona)
