Supt. Mardy Hortillosa, Cagayan de Oro City Police Office spokesman, identified the suspect as Sayjohn Gadiane, a resident of Barangay Puntod, this city.

Like other suspected drug peddlers before him, Gadiane allegedly tried to shoot the poseur-buyer but missed his target.

Personnel from the Bulua police led by Senior Insp. Breccia Ruth Townend conducted the buy-bust operation at Apovel Subdivision, this city, at around 6 pm on Tuesday.

According to authorities, during the transaction, Gadiane sensed he was dealing with a policeman on undercover work, pulled out a caliber .38 revolver, and shot the latter but missed. Another police officer allegedly fired back at Gadiane and hit him thrice to the chest.

A local rescue team rushed Gadiane to a hospital where he was declared dead.

Police claimed to have recovered from Gadiane a caliber .38 revolver, three fired cartridges, 11 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, and a P500 buy-and-bust money used by authorities.
