South Korean businessman Jung Sangyong, 44, was found dead at the back of Smart Condominiums in Zone 8, upper Canito-an,  this city, at around 5:30 am yesterday.

His death, initially suspected to be a case of suicide, came just hours after his arrival from Cebu on Thursday.

Police found Jung’s body at around 6 am. The man was caught in a web of metal wires at a concrete fence with his right knee skewered after his fall onto a steel pole.

Authorities said the Korean may have died immediately after his head hit a hard object. The man also broke his back.

It was a gory sight, said PO3 Roldan Sayatao.

Sayatao said the body was first seen by a seven-year-old boy who then informed his mother about it. Soon, guards and residents flanked the corpse and called city hall’s emergency response team and the police for help.

Police said they have yet to determine if it was a case of suicide or if there was foul play.

The Korean, according to Sayatao, was a businessman owned a company selling surplus vehicles.

The foreigner just arrived from South Korea and flew to this city from Cebu.

Here, Jung stayed at Room 509 at the 5th floor of Smart Condominiums. Inside, police found two mobile phones, a powerbank, a bag containing assorted clothes, a sling bag containing a leather wallet with several peso bills.

Investigators said Jung went out with some Korean companions at around 5 pm on Thursday. He returned at around 9 pm.

A condominium housekeeper told investigators she noticed that Jung was alone in the lobby of the condominium building with a sad face.

Police said a window of the condominium unit was wide open, making them theorize that Jung leaped to his death.

Investigators said residents swore they heard an unusual noise at around 2:30 am yesterday but had thought that someone had just dumped garbage at the back of the building.

Insp. Paulgen Ragmac of the Scene of the Crime Operatives, said they would closely examine  the Korean’s body in the hope of finding out if it was an accidental fall, a case of suicide or murder.
