Kinaadman to show polls survey today

XAVIER University’s research group is set to release the results of its local election survey this morning.

The XU Communications Office said Kinaadman: University Research Office (Kuro) would present the results during a news conference at the Audio-Visual Room 1 at the ground floor of the university’s old library.

The conference is scheduled to start at 9 am and last until 12 noon.

The XU Communications Office has hinted that the seats are limited during the presentation and only reporters who have responded to its invitation would be in its list that would be forwarded to the security group manning the university’s main gate “so we could facilitate your smooth entry to the university.”

Kinaadman is the same group that released survey results in April 2016 that showed reelectionist Mayor Oscar Moreno with a double-digit lead over the then congressman Rufus Rodriguez and ex-mayor Vicente Emano who fought for the mayoral post that year.

While its April 2016 survey results slightly differed from the May 2016 election outcome, the Kinaadman survey results correctly showed Moreno’s double-digit lead when he bagged 97,033 of the votes, representing 40.4 percent of the ballots cast.

But Kinaadman’s April 2016 survey results ranked Rodriguez a poor second. The election results however showed Emano placing second with 80,786 votes or 33.6 percent, and Rodriguez on the third spot with 61,804 votes or 25.7 percent.

Now, compare these with the April 25-April 26, 2016 survey results by Kinaadman: Moreno’s lead, 42 percent; Rodriguez, 26 percent; and Emano, 22 percent.

In its March 12 to March 16, 2016 survey, Kinaadman had noted a three-way statistical tie among the three top mayoral candidates. Results of the March 2016 survey showed Emano with 31.75 percent, Moreno with 30.50 percent, and Rodriguez with 25.75 percent.

But results of Kinaadman’s April 2016 survey showed Moreno’s ratings surging by 11.5 percent and Rodriguez’s by only 0.25 percent, and Emano’s taking a 9.75-percent nosedive.

There were two other mayoral candidates in 2016 — Felix Borres Jr. who is running for mayor again this year, and Ric Saarenas. The two “independents” received 0.1 percent of the votes cast for the mayoral candidates in 2016.

The April 2016 Kinaadman survey also correctly prefigured the then Carmen barangay councilor Joaquin Raineir Uy’s victory in the race for the vice mayoral post and his father Rolando’s reelection as congressman in the 1st District.

But the results of its April 2016 survey in the 2nd District showed former councilor Edgar Cabanlas taking the lead. The following month, Cabanlas lost the congressional race to Rodriguez’s brother Maximo Jr..

The April 2016 survey also showed Councilor Zaldy Ocon and the then newcomer Dr. Maria Lourdes Gaane topping the race for city council seats in the 1st and 2nd Districts, respectively. Ocon topped in his district, but Gaane ranked second, tailing behind Emano’s daughter, Councilor Nadya Elipe.
