Butuan City — At least 56 individuals including a minor were apprehended and held at the different police stations throughout Caraga Region Sunday evening for violating the liquor ban in connection with the National and Local Elections.

Brig. Gen. Gilberto DC Cruz revealed that among the 56 arrested, most of those apprehended by police personnel came from Butuan City.

Butuan City Police Office data stated that about 26 individuals were arrested in the city for violation of the liquor ban and brought to the different police stations a day before the election.  

PRO-13 report indicated that about 20 individuals including a minor were arrested in the province of Surigao del Sur. While Agusan del Sur had six arrests, three in the province of Dinagat and one in Agusan del Norte.

The strict enforcement of 48-hour liquor ban started on May 12 at 12:01 am and ended on May 13, 11:59 pm, at as the nation geared up for the midterm polls.

Section 261 of Comelec Resolution No. 10461 states that “Any person who sells, furnishes, offers, buys, serves or takes intoxicating liquor on the days fixed by law for the registration of voters in the polling place, or on the day before the election or on election day.”
