Gingoog City — Outgoing City Mayor Marie Guingona has defended the operation of the now controversial wharf saying that there was no actual destruction when it was constructed last year at the coastal area in Barangay Punong, here.
“Wala man destruction diha,” Guingona said.
It was learned, Genevieve Cruz, head of the Environmental Management Section of the city’s Environment and Natural Resources Unit, submitted a report to the office of city mayor in July 2018 that coral reefs were destroyed during the construction of the alleged illegal wharf.
“Maa man gyud na destruction. Bisan gani mag tunob lang ka sa balas sa beach destruction na kana,” Guingona said.
The wharf was constructed for the barging of sand and gravel and boulders to Cebu and other places in Visayas.
