CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A 13-year-old student at Oro Christian Grace School in Macasandig narrowly escaped tragedy on Thursday after a classmate’s 9mm pistol accidentally discharged during a scheduled English class role-play. The victim, a resident of Barangay Kauswagan, sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is currently in stable condition. Macasandig police chief Maj. Duyle Vembu Buenaflor confirmed that the firearm, which allegedly belongs to an Army colonel, was brought to school by a 7th-grade student. While students were expected to bring plastic toy guns for a "war games" activity, one student reportedly took his father's service weapon undetected by school security. Authorities are now investigating how the deadly weapon entered the campus and why there was a delay in reporting the incident to the police.
