Lawndale drowning death: CCTV recording shows 15 minutes of mysterious white noise

THE manager of the city hall-owned Kagay-an Lawndale Spring Resort has revealed that 15 minutes of the closed-circuit television recording of the pool where a teenager drowned on Sunday was all white noise.

Resort manager Gilda Casiño could not give a straight answer on why this happened but she theorized that it was due to a technical problem.

The CCTV static took place from 9:15 am to 9:30 am, about the same time teenager James Cloyd Casiño of Calaanan, Barangay Canitoan, went to the crowded pool.

Minutes later, he was found motionless underwater by a man who was in the pool. Lifeguards rushed and tried to resuscitate the teenager.

Ms. Casiño said the resort has a dozen CCTV cameras. But of the 12, only eight are functional, and none showed anyone drowning.

City administrator Teodoro Sabuga-a earlier said there was no CCTV recording of the 8th grader in the pool, and not one of the people in the pool or the resort saw him struggling for life.

Ms. Casiño said she was not on duty on Sunday morning and so, she reviewed the CCTV recordings.

“Dako among katingala kay nakita tanan tawo sa maong swimming pool apil na ang nangaligo but wala gyud didto ang biktima. Imposibli man unta di siya ma capture sa CCTV,” she said.

Other resort staff members reviewed the recordings, too, in order to establish the sequence of events and in the hope of finding out what really happened but found nothing.

“Naay portion sa CCTV nga blurred. Wala gyuy makita. Mibalik lang pagtin-aw sa dihang nagescue na sa nalumos,” Ms. Casiño said.

Mayor Oscar Moreno has put all those on duty that morning under investigation. He has given investigators five days from Monday to submit the results and recommendations.

The victim, a student at the Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School, was rushed to the JR Borja Memorial General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
