CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno has declared a community quarantine across this city's 80 barangays, today.

Moreno's declaration comes at the heels of the death of two patients at the Northern Mindanao Medical Center on Wednesday. The two patients died of severe acute respiratory illness less than a day after they were transferred to NMMC from hospitals outside Northern Mindanao.

Moreno said the city has already been "essentially" under community quarantine with the implementation of curfews, the household profiling in the city's barangays, and his call for residents to stay at home.

Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno talks to reporters during City Hall's 6th COVID-19 Presscon earlier this morning.

However, Moreno wanted the community quarantine expanded to include Misamis Oriental so the two local governments could calibrate their responses in containing the spread of the 2019 coronavirus disease.

He said he has set a meeting with the city's two district representatives, the two district representatives of Misamis Oriental, and Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano to discuss the operational efficiency of a possible joint quarantine.

"Earlier today (Thursday), I reached out to all the political leaders. I hope we will succeed," Moreno told reporters.
