By NITZ ARANCON Correspondent THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) yesterday launched tax-mapping operations in the city, beginning with establishments at Limketkai center, with the aim of collecting P6 billion here this year. Gernimo Palamini, BIR Revenue Region 16  director, said the Bureau would continue inspecting establishments to make sure that BIR rules are being followed by firms in the city, especially on the issuance of receipts. Venerando Homez, BIR chief revenue officer in the region, said the Bureau would also require books of accounts from the firms, and check their certificates of registration. The BIR said it found that one establishment at Limketkai center had not paid its annual registration fee and its book of accounts was outdated. The firm was slapped with a P2,000-fine. The BIR fines could go as high as P40 thousand depending on the gravity of the offense. Repeated violations could mean a closure order. Homez said BIR has stepped up tax collection in the city. Its 2017 collection target here is P6 billion. “Medyo kaya koliktahon kining P6 billion plus kay sa 2016, naka-collect man kami sa kapin P7 billion,” Homez said.
