Senior Insp. Roland Orcullo of Police Station 4 here said the accident took place at around 4 pm, and involved an air-conditioned bus owned by Metro Shuttle, a Toyota Fortuner, a Ford Ranger and a motorcycle.

Orcullo said nearly all those injured were bus passengers. The motorcycle driver was also hurt.

He said the bus was headed to the city proper when it went wayward. It spinned and then turned to its side after the bus driver stepped on the brakes.

Engr. Santiago Evasco Jr., who teaches at the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology and who drove the Toyota Fortuner, said he was on the way to Iligan City when he heard a noise of an impact behind his vehicle.

Evasco said his vehicle spinned after being hit from the rear. The impact made his vehicle slam against the rear of the Ford Ranger ahead on him.

“We continued to spin, and then, finally, we hit a small makeshift outpost… Mmy wife and I are fine,” said Evasco.

The bus driver, 50-year-old Felix Tumilap of Matina, Davao, said it was his first accident in his 13 years as a bus driver of Metro Shuttle.

Tumilap blamed the accident on the slippery road. He said the accident happened after he tried to avoid a tricycle that was turning right.
