I remember a question that struck

me a few years ago that I would gladly love to answer right now.

IF YOU COULD BE ANY SUPERHERO, WHO WOULD YOU BE?

Well, for most people, they might pick someone from The Avengers or someone from the comic books or movies. I’d definitely pick my Dad, no doubt about that, because after all, he is our very own Superman.

My Dad is my superhero because when my Mom told me that when she just gave birth to me, I almost died because I was cord-coiled. That was the first time she saw my Dad cry and prayed the hardest. For someone so strong, I couldn’t believe it.

My Dad is my superhero because when I was in my elementary years, I refused to go to school because I didn’t like my school at first, my Dad always held my hand or carried me and told me that it was gonna be okay. And when he’s not so busy, he’d always be the one to fetch me.

My Dad is my superhero because he has always been overprotective with me and my sisters ever since childhood. I’ve always thought of this as a bad thing but right now, I would say that they raised me in the best way they could and everything they’ve done was only because they wanted to keep us away from the dangers of life.

My Dad is my superhero because no matter how rebellious I’ve been, he has always been patient. Even though I’ve been much of a headache, he never stopped hoping that I’d come to my senses and he never gave up on me, which reminds me of the story about the prodigal son though.

My Dad is my superhero because even when I’ve had my share of failures, he was always there to remind to never keep trying and to always strive to be better. I guess that’s what the best parents always do. They push you to be better.

My Dad is my superhero because people say he doesn’t have a soft spot but when he is with his family, he always has this set of corny jokes that he cracks on the most random times.

My Dad is my superhero because he takes care of his hometown, Balingasag, and does his job as a son, husband and father to his family at the same time. Now, wouldn’t that mark the qualities of a superhero?

People say I’ve got so much from him — his love for words and music, his “sapoton” nature, his weird sense of humor, etc… And yes, how I wish what they’re saying is true. But I’ve realized that I still have so much to learn in this lifetime to be able to match up to him. My only wish is that I learn from his ways and be able to inspire others like him too.

I could probably write a novel about him and his life if I don’t stop typing. But since its Father’s Day, I might as well tell all of you to go give your old man a warm hug and greet him. As for me, I’m gonna say, “Thank you for the love Pang and I’m proud to say that you are the most influential person in my life. I know I can never be you but I know I can learn so much from you. I love you so much!”
