Supt. Surki Sereñas, Camp Alagar spokesman, said 350 of the officers were fielded to Cagayan de Oro while 200 others were sent to Iligan ahead of its Sept. 29 fiesta celebration.

The officers mostly come from the regional police’s mobile force battalion.

The deployment order, given out by police regional director Chief Supt. Timoteo Pacleb, took effect on Thursday, Sereñas said.

He security augmentation forces would beef up the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office’s and Iligan City Police Office’s checkpoint and beat patrol operations as well as increase police visibility in the two cities.

Sereñas said the move is aimed at preventing a repeat of the Isulan bombing that killed at least three people and hurt over 30 others.

The police have been on red alert in northern Mindanao because of the terrorism threat.

“Ibalik na man unta sa normal alert ang peace and order situation sa Region 10 human sa fiesta sa Cagayan de Oro, pero na-a may bomb explosion sa Sultan Kudarat, unya nagkadu-ol na sab ang fiesta sa Iligan. Ma-o tong  gi-continue nalang ang pag-implement sa red alert hangtud karon,” Sereñas said.
