The three local governments received the “Regional Green Banner| awards, and were recognized for their efforts in the implementation of the Barangay Nutrition Program in northern Mindanao.

Guinsiliban town in Camiguin, Manolo Fortich town in Bukidnon, and Laguindingan in Misamis Oriental also received the “Provincial Green Banner” awards.

Nimfa Torrizo, head of the Nutrition Council in Region 10, said the ongoing implementation of the nutrition program in different barangays is in line with President Aquino’s health program.

“Ang himsog nga pagka-on ma-oy atong kanunay ka-onon,” said Torrizo, adding that citizens who are physically fit  would mean a strong nation.

According to Marissa Navales, nutrition program coordinator of the National Nutrion Council in Region 10, the government’s thrust now is to eradicate malnutrion.

Navales said thousands of barangay nutrition scholars have been tasked to monitor the progress of the program implementation in the villages.

“Ang mga barangay nutrition scholars man gayud ang nasayod kinsay malnourished sa ilang mga lugar, so ma-o to ang ilang mga client,” Navales said.
