ONE of the organizers of the just-held Mindanao Business Conference here said the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry sent an invitation to city hall through Mayor Oscar Moreno.

Former Oro Chamber president Ruben Vegafria said this in response to Councilor George Goking’s claim that the Oro Chamber cold-shouldered the city council by not sending invites to its members.

Goking, the chairman of the council’s trade committee, said he found it ironic that the organizers invited local legislators from neighboring Iligan and Bukidnon to the Sept. 7-9 gathering of business leaders.

Vegafria, chairman of the organizing committee, said the Oro Chamber no longer sent individual invitation letters to members of the city council because an invite was already sent to Mayor Oscar Moreno.

“Dili mahimo nga among  tinagsa-on og invite ang mga membro sa city council. Ang among gi-invite is the city  government — it would mean lakip na niana ang mga member sa city council,” Vegafria explained.

He said city hall was very supportive of the Minbizcon that it even sponsored a luncheon on Saturday.

“I hope they would understand. Pero if they were offended nga wala sila maimbitar murag lisod sa ato na kay kada  stakeholders’ meeting  namo, ga-imbitahon man ang syudad, ug bahala na si Mayor Moreno kinsay iyang gipa-attend during the meeting,” he said.

Vegafria said he and other organizers were thankful to city hall for the support. (nitz arancon)
