FORMER Association of Barangay Councils president Alexander Dacer yesterday said his party, the Padayon Pilipino, has decided to field ex-councilor Jerico Goldmar Ebabacol as its top bet in the upcoming Liga ng mga Barangay elections in the city.

Dacer, a former councilor and a staunch supporter of ex-mayor Vicente Emano, said Ebabacol already agreed to become Padayon Pilipino’s candidate for the Liga presidency this August.

This could not be independently confirmed. Ebabacol has yet to comment on Dacer’s claim.

Ebabacol served as a city councilor, representing the city’s Sangguniang Kabataan Federation in the local legislature, when Emano was still the city’s leader. He was subsequently elected as chairman of Barangay 17.

After the barangay elections last week, the barangay chairman was sworn in by Mayor Oscar Moreno.

Dacer did not elaborate. When he was asked why Ebabacol was chosen, the former Puntod barangay chairman snapped: “Basta siya ang napili.”

Emano’s son-in-law and ex-councilor President Elipe kept his mum when he was asked to confirm or deny Dacer’s claim.

But earlier, Elipe said the Padayon Pilipino has yet to decide on its top candidate for the Liga elections, a pronouncement similar to what Councilor Leon Gan made.

In another political development, the capitol has announced that Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano has been named as the regional chairman of a group that’s working to make President Duterte’s man Friday, Christopher Go, senator next year.

Capitol spokesperson Nicole Managbanag said Emano was chosen to chair the “Sulong ng Pagbabago Movement” in Region 10.

Managbanag said the group is among those campaigning to make Go, Duterte’s special assistant, win a Senate seat in the 2019 elections.

The group’s regional chapter covers the provinces of Misamis Occidental, Camiguin, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte and Misamis Oriental.

In a statement, Emano said a Go candidacy would be good given that he is a Mindanaoan.

He said the group is prodding Go to run for a Senate seat. If Go runs and makes it, Emano said, “once more, there will be a Mindanaoan who will be sitting in the Senate, and Bisaya pa gyod. Dili ta magsunggo kon mangayo ta didto og programa ug proyekto didto sa kaulohan.”
