ROMAN Catholic priests and nuns, and Muslim leaders in the city yesterday launched the celebration of the Mindanao  Week of Peace  2018. The celebration would be up to Dec. 5, based on the presidential  decree of former President Gloria Arroyo.

Mohammad Gondarangin, president of the Oro Jamah Association, said Muslims here support the annual celebration because they see it as a “wake-up call” for citizens of the need for them to do their share to protect the city and Mindanao as a whole, and make the southern Philippines peaceful.

Gondarangin read the statement of the Ulama-Bishop Conference of the Philippines in support of Bangsamoro Law. “The BOL is a result of the extended  dialogue, through earlier agreement, and peace negotiation,” he said.

Columban priest Fr. Paul Glenn said the Mindanao Week of Peace celebration is aimed at showing the world that Mindanao is peaceful.

“Bisan didto sa Manila,  nagto-o sila didto  nga samok ta dinhi sa   Mindanao. Nan kon dili nato ipakita nga malinawon ang Mindanao, moto-o na gyud sila sa Manila nga samok ta dinhi, nga malinawon man ta,” the foreigner said in Bisaya. (Nitz Arancon)
