“SWERTE ta sa Cagayan de Oro. Not only the visitors come here in the city and the region ang gusto na safe sila, even the residents themselves are peace-loving.”

This was the statements made by Councilor Romeo V. Calizo Thursday during the radio program Ang Konseho Karon relative to the current peace and order situation of the city.

With the convergence of ideas of the authorities and the community as to how Cagayan de Oro should be made an ideal place to live in, the councilor is optimistic for a peaceful celebration of the Christmas holidays and even soon after.

As the chair of the City Council committee on police, fire and public safety, and co-chair of the City Anti Drug Abuse Council (CADAC), Calizo commended the efforts of 58 barangays for doing their part in the campaign against illegal drugs by installing their respective Community Based Rehabilitation Programs (CBRP).

They realize the importance of the advocacy through the after-care given to the responders for purposes of keeping them away from drugs, Calizo hinted.

“Agakon nato sila sa pagpanginabuhi nga tarong bahalag simple, bahalag pinobre for as long as it can suffice their basic needs and we maintain the dignity of the person. That’s good enough. Kini tungod sa dictum of our mayor for solidarity and compassion that secure our city from every threat including drugs,” Calizo further said.

Some heavily affected barangays like Patag, Macabalan and Indahag are now drug-free. He credited not only the installation of the CBRP in these areas but also the support of the residents.

“The demand reduction tungod sa CBRP kay those responders themselves are going to their respective rehabilitation centers. They are also providing testimonies nga makadaut gyud ang droga,” the councilor reported.

Aside from this, the police now have the complete watchlist, monitoring and connectivity that enable them to properly identify and apprehend both the users and pushers, he further said.  (SP)

The councilor cited one particular indicator on the success of the advocacy was the declaration of City Hall as a drug-free workplace. Because of this, some private establishments are now encouraged to conduct their own random drugtest.

“Last week ako na gipapirmahan kang Mayor, as chairman of CADAC, the resolution requesting the council for adopting a resolution mandating all barangays to conduct their CBRP and designate their respective com-based managers in compliance to the requirements of the Dangerous Drugs Act. Kinahanglan tanan barangays should be drug-free, automatic drug-free na pud dayon ang dakbayan,” Calizo manifested. (SP/JAO)
