MEDINA’s bet Chella Grace Falconer bagged the coveted Miss Kuyamis 2019 crown, besting 19 other candidates from all over Misamis Oriental, at the Tagoloan Dome on Thursday night.
The 19-year-old Medina stunner of German-Irish-Filipino descent would be Misamis Oriental’s official bet to Eat Bulaga’s Miss Millennial Philippines 2019 and the Miss Earth Philippines 2019, said Jeffrey Saclot, provincial tourism department head.
Falconer emerged as the winner in this year’s search after she answered a question on sustainable development and responsible tourism during the Q&A portion.
The question thrown to the five remaining candidates, including Falconer: “As Miss Kuyamis, how will you carry out your role to help achieve a sustainable tourism in Misamis Oriental?”
Falconer’s answer: “In today’s society, I believe that it is important to have sustainable development that we may achieve greater heights of prosperity regarding our tourism and economic industry without compromising the beauty of our environment. I can serve a role model to the youth and I can help them, and let them learn that we must all be responsible. We must all have responsible tourism and we must all care and mind our environment….”
Saclot said he was optimistic that the Xavier University accountancy student would become a good ambassador of the province.
Before bagging the crown, Falconer won minor and major awards. She was adjudged best in swimsuit, best in panel interview, and best in Kuyamis costume, among others.
Four of the 20 candidates nearly made it. They are Tagoloan’s Maria Luz Victoria delos Angeles, 1st runner up; Talisayan’s Adel Ebarat, 2nd runner up; Sugbongcogon’s Cherry Rose Lomopog, 3rd runner up; and El Salvador City’s Cris Antonette Teaño, 4th runner up.
Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano congratulated Falconer and promised that the provincial government would fully support her in her quest for more beauty pageant titles this year.
“The road does not end here. There will be Miss Millennial, Miss Earth and whatever pageant there is that will help us promote Misamis Oriental. We will fight for her because she will be representing Misamis Oriental,” said Emano.
