The Manolo Fortich Hydros of Hedcor found a home in the town of Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon because its hydropower plants are able to operate through tapping into the town’s powerful rivers.

Residents are equally thankful to these bodies of water as they heavily rely on it for their daily needs. As such, it is vital for them to be able to respond to aquatic-related emergencies when the need arises.

Realizing the importance of preparedness in both skill and equipment, Hedcor will hold a Basic Water Safety Training in Brgy. Guilang-guilang, Manolo Fortich on July 30-31 to further capacitate its host communities.

The training will educate members of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (BDRRMC) of the said barangay which is a far-flung town. By building the BDRRMC’s readiness and ability to respond to emergencies, they are able to reduce risk and mitigate the impact of disasters in their community.

The basic swimming skills and water rescue training will be facilitated by representatives from Manolo Fortich’s Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. A discussion on climate change adaptation will also be headed by Hedcor’s Environmental Management team, as part of the program.

Rescue equipment such as a throw bag, plastic backboard, and headlamps among others, will also be turned over to the barangay after the training.

In the Philippines, National Disaster Resilience Month is commemorated every July. Hedcor aligns its program to this event wherein they help build their stakeholders’ disaster response capacity. Hedcor’s program on first aid and basic community disaster preparedness training began in 2018 and is continued to be implemented this year.

In Davao del Sur, Hedcor has recently concluded its Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management training attended by the BDRRMC of Brgy. Sibulan and Brgy. Jose Rizal in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. It has also recently held a 2-day Basic Water Safety Training in Brgy. Darong, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur. (pr)
