PHYSICIANS warned him about the sudden inflammation of his pancreas but the foreigner insisted on leaving the hospital.
On Sunday night, 59-year-old Bryan Richard Roche of Boston, Massachusetts, was found dead in a Camaman-an house which he and his partner rented.
The American’s partner, Lain Manzano, 49, told the police that Roche had been rushed to the Maria Reyna-Xavier University Hospital due to acute pancreatitis, and hypertensive urgency.
Maj. Evan Viñas, city police spokesman, said the Roche had insisted on leaving the hospital against doctors’ advice on Sept. 15, and that the American had even signed a waiver.
He insisted, and left the hospital on Sunday afternoon.
“He told his partner he would rather stay at home than in the hospital,” Viñas said.
Police said the American was found by Manzano dead on the bedroom floor at around 10:42 pm Sunday.
Investigators said neighbors stated that Manzano left Roche inside the house for a few hours and when she returned, she found the American lifeless.
Senior M/Sgt. Neil Apollo de las Alas said there was no sign of foul play.
The American, he said, apparently died of natural causes.
Viñas said said Roche was a retired US Army soldier who came to the country about two years ago. Here, he had been dependent on his pension for his daily needs.
Police said the American Embassy in Manila has been informed of Roche’s death.
