THE City Council has adopted two separate resolutions designating Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya as Ambassador of Goodwill to Japan and Germany on the occasion of his travel to the said countries.

On Oct. 8-11, in Yokohama, Japan, the councilor will be one of the delegates to the Asia Smart City Conference, an international conference that brings together representatives from cities of Asia, international organizations, academic institutions and private companies aiming to establish a knowledge hub for Smart Cities.

At this conference, cities will share their visions for growth as well as their current challenges and needs; private companies and academic institutions will propose innovative solutions; international organizations will offer programs to support efforts by cities and private companies and various best practices from around the world will also be shared.

Following the said event, Nacaya will then travel to Hannover, Germany to attend the Ecosystem Services Partnership (ESP) World Conference slated on Oct. 21-25.

The 10th ESP World Conference will welcome more than 600 delegates from all over the world with a variety of activities. Seven keynote speakers will reflect on the conference theme from different perspectives and more than fifty break-out sessions will take place. Delegates can additionally register for pre-conference trainings, a conference dinner and field trips.

An organized dialogue will also be conducted between business representatives and researchers to stimulate the application of the ecosystem services concept in business applications.

The conference locations are the Leibniz University for the opening day and the Hannover Congress Centre for the rest of the conference.

The resolutions were filed by Councilor Teodulfo Lao, Jr. and duly approved by other members of the City Council. (sp)
