Kagay-anons love their food, and every time something new pops up around the city there’s no stopping us from experiencing it firsthand and with that in mind, we thought we’d slim down your choices into five must-try places in Cagayan de Oro.

Hogs and Cattle Surf and Turf

Kicking off the list is one of this city’s best steakhouse joint, Hogs & Cattle Steakhouse located at the 5th floor of SM CDO Downtown Premier. Known for being home to unlimited steaks and burgers that serves prime cuts of Angus and Wagyu beefs has recently launched its newest menu dubbed as the “Surf and Turf” and “Steakshare”.

Surf and Turf x Steashare Menu

The menu offers diners a new experience at hogs with its addition of shrimp to its already delicious menu. It offers a combination of Angus & Shrimp (A&S) and Wagyu & Shrimp (A&W) in packs good for two to four persons.

There are three combinations offered by Hogs & Cattle, the A&S at P880 is good for two with Shrimp, 3 Angus, 2 rice, 2 soup, and 2 iced tea; A&S II at P1140 is good for three with Shrimp, 4 Angus 3 of each mentioned, and A&S III is priced at P1300 and is good for four with Shrimp and 5 Angus. Meanwhile, its Wagyu & Shrimp combo are priced at P1398, 1950, and P2300 respectively.

Not in the mood for seafood, no worries. You can still enjoy this new menu with “Steak Share”. It offers the same as the above minus the shrimp, and at a much affordable price of P580 for its Angus and P1098 for its Wagyu. Same as the A&S and W&S it is categorized into three.

ChingkeeTea continues to offer one the best milk teas in the city, with tea leaves handpicked from Taiwan and brew them on a daily basis, then fuse it with their own special mix providing customers with unique tasting teas.

Its milk teas are not the only reason why people enjoy ChingkeeTea, but also its interior design – Simple and rustic with a warm vibe that makes it one of the best places in CDO to sit, talk, and relax with friends. Same with its other branches it incorporates creative artwork and design making it a productive place to work or study while you sip your favorite tea.

Mr. Kimbob Korean BBQ

There’s a new Korean joint in town that recently opened in the city and located at SM CDO Downtown Premier’s Food Hall that serves authentic Bibimbop (Bibimbap) and many more. “Bibim” means mixing various ingredients, while “bob” or “bap” refers to rice. Bibimbap is served as a bowl of warm white rice topped with namul or kimchi and gochujang, soy sauce, or doenjang.

For added flair right before service, add 1 egg yolk to the middle of the bowl on top of the vegetables. Simply break the egg yolk and mix it in the gochujang mixture. Enjoy with rice and kimchee, and a dumpling or two!

Mr. Kimbob Korean BBQ is known for its quality meals at affordable prices. It has grown to be a favorite in all SM food courts around the country.  They also serve rice meals, eight to be preciced! such as the Meat Lover’s for P99 with the choice of beef, pork, or chicken; Spicy Squid for P135; Donkatsu at P115; Kalbisal for P199; Spicy Pork for P159; Mr. Chix Bites at P115; Bulgogi Japchae Dubbob P99; and Kimchi Beef Fried Rice for P99.

There are numerous food parks popping up around Cagayan de Oro, joining the list is Metro Food Park located at the Gaisano Mall parking annex in C.M Recto Avenue. The food park offers a wide selection of food concepts to choose from and space for more.

The food park recently opened last October 28 (soft opening) and has been gaining ground as it offers dining customers affordable and delicious meals perfect for anyone on the go. It is also a nice place to unwind after a busy day at the office.

Metro Food Park offers your favorite Filipino food such as Bulalo, Barbecues, Bangus, Tinola, Fried Dishes, Pancit, Kinilaw, and so much more.

There’s not much we could say about this place other than to try it out for yourselves. Enjoy!

CTC StrEATs

Located at the ground floor of Cagayan Town Center, CTC StrEATs, a food park that takes comfort food to a whole new level. Although surrounded by restaurants it holds its own by offering a wide variety of food stalls that offer delicious and affordable meals and snacks from Rice Meals, Native Lechon, Seafood Meals, Unli Chicken Wings, Pork and Chicken Barbecue, Pork Sisig Meals, Chicken Rice Meals and a lot more.

Adding to the lineup of stalls in CTC StrEATs are Biz Dak, Mr. Tako, Bourbon Mix, and Mario’s Native Lechon. If you love eating takoyaki, I highly recommend you try Mr. Tako. They are the first to bring authentic takoyaki with real baby octopus in the city — and they do not disappoint.

They also offer Original Takoyaki, Ebiyaki Takoyaki, Baby Octopus, Takoyaki, Negi-Ponzu Takoyaki, Cheesy Overload Takoyaki, and Crab Meat Takoyaki.

It’s definitely one of the best takoyaki I had by far.
