THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) raided a house to search for illegal guns in Sitio Lambago, Bayside in Lapasan this morning. Police searched the house of Leoncio Bunuan based on a court warrant but failed to find any illegal weapon. The CIDG found a caliber .45 pistol but it turned out to be licensed. No arrest was made. The raid was based on a search warrant issued by Executive Judge Dennis Alcantar, the presiding judge of Regional Trial Court-Branch 18, based here in the city.

The operatives were not able to find illegal firearms anywhere in the residence of Leoncio Bunuan at Sitio Lambao in Bayside Lapasan.

Lt. Noel Oclarit, head of the CIDG raiding team, said they searched for a 9mm Norinco pistol with serial number 201451 (the gun’s license supposedly expired July 31) and a Caspin .45 caliber pistol with serial number 6605281 (the license supposedly expired on May 23, 2014).

Oclarit said Bunuan told him the businessman had lost a gun and sold another. Bunuan, however, did not elaborate if the guns specified in the search warrant were the same ones he had sold and lost.

Oclarit said Bunuan should have had it documented in a police station when he lost the gun and to produce a deed of sale for the gun he said he sold.

“Kay kon gamiton to sa binuang, unya imo pang ngalan naka-reflect sa record sa Camp Crame, madalahig ka,” Oclarit told Bunuan.

He said they could not arrest Bunuan because he did not have the guns that were specified in the search warrant.

“Ang kaso sa illegal possession of firearms, kanang ang armas nga walay license, na-a sa imong possession. Pero kini karon wala man sa iyang possession kay nawala man ug iyang namaligya, dili siya nato puwede dakpon,” said Oclarit.

Although the raiding team was able to find a .45 caliber bullet and as caliber .45 pistol Sig Sauer with serial number 54A016610, the gun’s license has yet to expire on June 6, 2020. They also found an air gun rifle.

Oclarit said they did not confiscate the guns they found at Bunuan’s residence since these were all licensed and well-documented.

Police left Bunuan at his residence with an advise that should the businessman encounter problems with the two guns he lost and sold, he could approach and report it to CIDG so they could help him.
