Maj. Jelesis Teves, Carmen police chief, identified the suspect as Capt. Calvin Nario Placer Jr., 35, of Rosewood, Butuan City.

Placer was arrested in front of a police training center in Barangay Patag following a chase. Minutes earlier, while escaping, he sideswiped a man riding a bicycle with his driven grey Mitsubishi Montero SUV, bearing license plates B5A-496, at around 4 am.

Teves said a drunk Placer caused trouble at Jakko’s Grill on Regatta Blvd. in upper Carmen past 3 am.

First, according to Teves, Placer harassed a woman from another table and even made her smell his gun.

Teves said Placer was with two other officers and the group had a drinking binge starting at 8 pm Thursday.

He said a drunk Placer set his eyes on a woman who was with her boyfriend and friends at another table.

Teves said that when the woman refused to give him her name and contact information, Placer became ruly.

“Naulawan siguro, gipatawag dayon niya ang waiter ug gisumbag. Ang kamot gihimo niyang ashtray. Gipatawag pud niya ang manager ug gimomo niya ang dagway sa lamesa. Nani-on pa gyud sa iyang armas,” Teves said.

He said the Carmen police responded as soon as they received a call for help but by the time they arrived, Nario was already gone. He left his two companions behind.

Teves said police chased Placer and caught up with him, minutes after he figured in an accident at Ilaya, Carmen.

Sensing that he was outnumbered, Placer gave himself up.

Teves said all the people Placer allegedly hurt would press charges.

Placer is facing charges of grave threats, physical injuries, acts of lasciviousness, and reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries.

Teves said Placer would also be slapped with an administrative case.

Capt. Placer spent Valentine’s Day under detention at the Maharlika police headquarters.

He was here to attend a course on public safety at the National Police’s Regional Training School which he needs so he could be promoted to major.
