Provincial jail warden Dominador Tagarda identified the escapee as Junrey Mañus Banggo of Barangay Sihayon, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

Banggo was convicted in connection with a drug case. He was supposed to serve a three-year imprisonment sentence.

Tagarda, however, said Banggo was ordered to undergo rehabilitation following a plea bargaining.

Tagarda said Banggo escaped at around 11 am Thursday at the Gaisano City on CM Recto Avenue where he was brought by the jail guard identified as Norberto Abrio.

Abrio, according to Tagarda, went to the mall to collect money from the courier Palawan and Banggo tagged along.

Tagarda said Abrio is facing  an administrative investigation.

Banggo was supposed to start undergoing a program at a rehabilitation program in upper Puerto on Monday.

Tagarda said Abrio first brought Banggo to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center for a medical examination, a requirement of the rehabilitation center.

“Dili man gud dawaton sa rehab center kon  walay medical check-up, ma-o tong gipa-check-up siya pero nakabuhi man no-on,” he said.

Tagarda said no physician was available at the NMMC at that time and so, Abrio decided to go the the mall.

“Samtang nag-fill out ang guwardiya, paglingi niya, nawala na man ang iyang gi-eskortan,” said Tagarda, adding that it was clear there was negligence of the part of Abrio.

Meanwhile, Tagarda sent out 10 prison guards in the hope of capturing Banggo again.
