WE are on uncharted territory. We have reached a point when drastic measures are now being resorted to all over the world. As we are all seeing now, the threat to governments, nations, economies, public health and humanity is real. The problem is gargantuan, and it is global.
Viruses respect no territorial boundaries. Anyone can get infected; anyone can be a carrier. We, too, can contract the disease. We, too, can pass this deadly virus on to others.
Adjustments, therefore, have to be made. While we remain committed as ever before to our tasks of informing and expressing views about matters of public concern, we also need to look after all those involved in our daily operations down to the newsboy in the street. We also worry for them and their families. We cannot afford to continue putting their health at risk knowing full well that the number of people testing positive for the 2019 novel coronavirus (Covid-19) is shooting up.
Our journalists will continue working to inform you about what’s happening in the city and Mindanao the best way we can. Only this time, our operations will shift to cyberspace during this period of uncertainty. Momentarily, our printing press will stop running until the dust clears. This decision, hopefully, will greatly reduce the risks that our workers face and keep them and their families out of harm’s way.
In the meantime, Gold Star Daily’s journalists will be out in the field to keep you informed. They will be exposed to risks which come with the territory but will do their work judiciously, without compromising their health. Our columnists will also keep their schedules.
