ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Inter-Agency Task Force on 2019 novel coronavirus disease announced that a second confirmed case has been recorded in this southern port city.

Salazar said the confirmed case, who was among the patients under investigation (PUIs), is currently confined in the isolation room of West Metro Medical Center (West Metro).

“Due to strict measures and protocols implemented by the hospital administration and its health workers, the patient was screened early, has been isolated since the screening and is being managed well,” Salazar said.

She said the patient will be transferred soon to the government-owned Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC), “our Covid-19 center”.

“We thank the front-liners and management of West Metro for their hard work and for adhering to the protocols to protect both our community and our health care system,” she said.

The first confirmed case for Covid-19 in this city is a 29-year-old male of Barangay Sinunuc with travel history in Manila.

As this developed, the mayor requested residents to remain calm and avoid panic.

She said the city government and the West Metro management are following protocols for the proper handling “of our second case and has initiated contact tracing”.

“Please continue to stay home to prevent infection and spread of the virus,” she said. (pna)
