SWAB tests on a 68-year-old male from Butuan City who became Caraga’s first recorded Covid-19 patient, and that of five probable cases yielded negative results.

These were in a Covid-19 Case Bulletin that the Department of Health-Caraga posted online on Sunday (April 12) and Friday which labeled the region’s lone Covid-case as PUI 45.The five others are listed as PUIs 50, 51, 52, 53 and 54.

DOH-Caraga director Jose Llacuna Jr. on April 6 confirmed that Patient 45, who has pre-existing lung disease and diabetes and travel history from Metro Manila, tested positive for Covid-19.

The patient, currently admitted at Caraga Regional Hospital in Surigao City, needs another negative test result so that he could be discharged.

Patient 50, a 17-year-old male resident of Cabadbaran City, is admitted at Nasipit District Hospital; Patient 51, a 65-year-old male from Butuan is at Caraga Regional Hospital, Surigao City; and Patient 52 is an 18-year-old female from Agusan del Sur. Patient 53, a 31-years-old female, and Patient 54, a 64-year-old, are from Surigao del Sur.

Patients 52, 53, and 54 have been under quarantine at the Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center, Tandag City.

Nasal and oral swabs from the six were sent to the Southern Philippine Medical Center, Davao City for confirmatory reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests. (Uriel C. Quilinguing)
