ILIGAN City ― Save the Children Philippines, in partnership with SaferKidsPH, launches the #KaMinNaman or Kabataang Mindanao Naman Digital Music Festival. The event will be a venue for children in Mindanao to experience a platform of exchange, sharing of stories and reflections of their rights and desire for peace in times of crisis through song and video.

KaMinNaman forming the phrase “kami naman” which means “our turn” seeks to encourage the participation of children specifically, those who are in conflict-affected areas in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm) and other vulnerable communities in Mindanao.

The songwriting/music video competition is open to all 10-17-year-old novice, amateur, and professional children artists, residing in Mindanao. Residents in the Barmm are strongly encouraged to join.

“Save the Children Philippines seeks to use this platform for the advancement and fulfillment of children’s right to be protected in all forms of abuses including physical and emotional abuse, online abuse and sexual exploitation and armed conflict-related abuses,” said Edwin Horca, Barmm Team Leader, Save the Children Philippines.

The festival aims to unleash the potential of Mindanaoan children artists and musicians by creating a platform to motivate their participation, promote their culture, and celebrate their talents.

“This is also our way to motivate children to report on their current situation amid the issues of conflict and the Covid-19 pandemic through artistic and fun approach,” Horca added.

Themes of the entries must revolve around messages on children’s rights, protection of children in times of crisis, and participation of children in preventing online sexual abuse and exploitation.

The deadline for submission of entries will be on November 9. The top ten best entries will be selected and announced on November 19.

The best song/music video will receive P40,000, second place P30,000, and third place P20,000. Consolation prizes will be given to the other seven entries worth P5,000 each.

The virtual awarding ceremony will be on November 28 in line with this year’s national children’s month celebration. (Save the Children-PH)
