A LOCAL government official yesterday disclosed that Camiguin has recorded three cases of coronavirus infections from local transmissions.

This, after the island province logged in 10 new cases of Covid-19, three of these involving minors who had no travel histories, just a couple of days after Camiguin marked its 41st Lanzones Festival.

“We have long been preparing for local transmissions, now we have them,” said mayor Yñigo Jesus D. Romualdo of Mambajao, in a live video posted online. All residents who contracted the disease earlier came home from places with Covid-19 cases.

The new infections brought Camiguin’s active cases of Covid-19 to 31, and a cumulative total to 38, as indicated in last night’s Department of Health Region 10’s briefer.

Of the 38, seven had already been cleared from infections, including the island’s first Covid-19 patient who was confirmed last March 28 in Mahinog town.

Romualdo said that the Mambajao municipal government will be imposing stricter measures to ensure health protocols and extraction of all those contact-traced are complied with to the letter.

He said that the couple from barangay Balbagon, who had tested positive for infections, are engaged in an “essential” trading business, transporting goods from Cagayan de Oro to Camiguin.

Dr. Lyndon Aclan, who heads the municipal health office, described those infected from “local transmissions” as a three-year old male, a six-year old female, and an 11-year old male, all siblings of a family from Balbagon.

Aclan, in his Covid-19 report, detailed that all three kids did not travel with their 38-year old father and 33-year old mother, yet their specimens taken last Oct. 20 for reverse transciptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests yielded positive results last Sunday.

The family of five members were tagged as Mambajao’s 17th to 21st Covid-19 cases.

Also indicated in the Mambajao Covid-19 report were: 16th case is a 27-year old male of Brgy. Magting, who came home from Quezon City; 22nd case is a 28-year old “authorized person outside residence, who travelled from Cagayan de Oro with 23rd case, a 22 year-old female, and both are residents of brgy. Pandan.

Two other confirmed infections are the 24th case, a 46-year old female resident of brgy. Naasag who travelled from Mandaue City; and the 25th case, an 18-year old female native of brgy. Tupsan who came home from Quezon City.

Their RT-PCR test results, all confirming the infections, were relayed to the town mayor last Sunday and yesterday morning.
