THE turnout of seniors and persons with comorbidities at Cagayan de Oro City’s designated vaccination sites in three malls remain high despite restrictions on walk-in vaccinations, Mayor Oscar Moreno said.

“(Even without walk-in vaccinations) public interest remains high which we are thankful for. And we need people to be interested so that the efforts of our vaccination teams and the mall managements aren’t wasted…if the people don’t show interest, that’s not going to be healthy for everyone. We need to keep public interest and cooperation in the city’s vaccination campaign high because it’s for their protection,” Moreno said over the weekend.

Moreno said this as City Hall’s vaccination operations center administered first doses of Covid-19 vaccines to 18,194 city residents from June 16-25. Of that number about 11,628 of the first dose, recipients fall under the A3 category or persons with comorbidities while 5,127 are seniors belonging to the A2 category. The remaining 1,439 are the city’s medical frontliners assigned in the city’s upland barangays.

Two vaccination sites in SM CDO Downtown Premier and Limketkai mall service identified vaccine recipients in the A1 to A3 categories in the city while the Ayala Centrio mall vaccination venue is serviced by the Department of Health (DOH-10) regional office through the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) and caters to national government employees under the A2 to A3 categories. Last June 26, the NMMC also offered walk-in vaccinations to the city’s senior citizens at the Ayala Centrio Mall.

An additional vaccination venue to be set up at the SM Cagayan de Oro Uptown mall will service residents in the city’s upland barangays.

“I would like to thank the managements of the city’s malls for allocating space for the city’s vaccination sites. Not only space, but they also spend for lighting, security and air-conditioning to make it comfortable for our seniors and A3 vaccine recipients,” Moreno said.

With vaccine supplies expected to go up by end of July and Cagayan de Oro City’s identification as a ‘Plus 10’ priority in the government’s vaccine supply list, Moreno said the public must cooperate and have themselves vaccinated so they can be protected from the severe symptoms caused by Covid-19 infection.
