GOVERNMENT forces found some seven high-powered firearms and other subversive documents and other personal belongings from New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas in San Luis town in Agusan del Sur province on Tuesday. June 22.

Army’s 4th Infantry Division public affairs chief Major Rodulfo Cordero said in a report that while conducting combat operations, soldiers from the Army’s 26th Infantry Battalion had a 20-minute firefight with 16 NPA rebels in Sitio Kimambukadyang of Brgy. Binicalan, San Luis at 2:00 p.m.

Cordero said recovered from the battle site were one AK47 rifle, 3 M16 rifles, 2 M653 Carbine, and 1 Garand rifle with clip.

Various war paraphernalia was also recovered such as 1 Baofeng commercial radio, 2 cellular phones, 10 bandoleers, 10 backpacks, 3 hammocks, 1 card reader, 1 solar panel, ammunition, subversive documents, and other personal belongings.

No casualties were reported on the government side according to the report.

A half sack of rice, coffee, and other food supplies were also captured during the search in the encounter area that was extorted by the armed group from the residents in the said community.

The confronted armed group was members of combined elements of the Sub-Region SDG Banglas and remnants of Guerilla Front (GF) 88, all from the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) of the New People’s Army (NPA).

Meanwhile, 26IB commander Lt. Col. Reynald Romel A. Goce extended his gratitude to the concerned residents of Brgy. Binicalan.

“The cooperation of our fellow Agusanons in our fight against insurgency had been strengthening our inter-operational efforts in confronting the enemy,” said Goce adding that they are thankful for continuously providing reliable and timely reports about the presence of these lawless elements and for being their peace partners.

With the seizure of the high-powered firearms, Goce believes that the NPA in their area of operations was demoralized.

“We will continue to pursue them aggressively under the rule of law until they abandon this futile armed struggle,” said Goce.

Once again, we are encouraging our fellows in the armed group to peacefully lay down their arms, surrender, and start a more peaceful life, according to Goce. (Ben Balce)
