He is an independent candidate and has no lineup of candidates for vice mayor and councilors, but has stated that he welcomes anybody who wishes to affiliate with him.

He also expounded on his self-styled nickname “Doc,” saying that he has no medical degree, but has a doctorate in “mechanical.” When pressed further, he explained that he used to be employed for 27 years in Rolls Royce at Bristol, England as an engine test pilot.

When asked why he is running for city mayor for the nth time, he said: “Tungod sa katawhan. Ang uban diha, makalingkod na gani, di na ma duolan.”

“Priority nako mga tao nga nag lisud sa syudad,” he said when asked of his plans for Cagayan De Oro if he wins the election. He also mentioned that he has upcoming infrastructure projects which he cannot discuss in detail due to non-disclosure reasons.

Borres has this to say to his political opponents: “Ang ako lang ma sulti sa ila, kung kinsa man maka lingkod kanamo, ipadayon ang mga project. Gusto ko mo asenso ang Cagayan de Oro, and raise Mindanao.”

He said he still supports President Rodrigo Duterte, even though the President has declared he will not be seeking any national position next year.

Naa koy dakong utang kabobot-on kang Duterte, he has word of honor. He helped me in the construction of SM Davao. Hinaut unta ang makadaug na pud na presidente taga Mindanao gihapon,” said Borres.
