GINGOOG City ― Gubernatorial rivals Peter Unabia of PaDayon Pilipino (PDP) and Juliette Uy of the National Unity Party (NUP) have both presented their respective local candidates for this city, today.

Both were present as their local bets filed their Certificates of Candidacy before the Commission on Elections.

Gov. Yevgeny Vincente B. Emano was not present since he attended the virtual oath-taking ceremony of Dr. Jerie Calingasan, who has been promoted to regional director of the Department of Health.

Re-electionist Mayor Erick Cañosa and his running mate City Councilor Winfred Militante, Jr, and the rest of the PDP slate filed their COCs in the morning after hearing Mass at Sta. Rita Church, here.

Meanwhile, the NUP candidates, led by former Mayor Marie de Lara Guingona and Councilor Thaddeus Lugod and the rest of their lineup filed their COCs for mayor, vice-mayor, and councilors, respectively in the afternoon.

Local media personalities also filed their COCs for city councilors including Ronie Waniwan (PDP), Ricardo Cañete (Ind), and Del Mark Valendez (Ind).

Rep. Christian Unabia, who is seeking another term, also attended the filing of CoCs of his party mates, along with re-electionist Vice Governor Jeremy Jonahmar Pelaez.

Meanwhile in Talisayan, Misamis Oriental there were three mayoral candidates Town Councilor Rico Taray (PDP), Councilor Ciriaco Talines (NUP), Town Vice Mayor Joseph Epoc (Ind).

Incumbent Mayor Rommel Maslog (PDP) and Councilor Andres Llagas (NUP) will duke it out on the vice mayoral race.

At 2 pm today, Padayon top leaders also showed their support to the Padayon Medina Team headed by incumbent Mayor Donato Chan.

Guingona lost in the vice mayoral race of Gingoog in the 2019 elections to Unabia, while her mother, Ruthie, lost to Cañosa. The Guingonas ruled Gingoog for 15 years.

The PaDayon Pilipino bets for city councilors include incumbent Councilors Roy Aniscal, Jerome Mercado, Evelyn Cañosa, and Conrad Gomez.

NUP Congressional bet for the first District Atty Karen Lagbas, daughter of Late Congressman Danilo Lagbas and Vice Gubernatorial bet former Vice Governor Joey G. Pelaez also showed their support to the local bets led by Guingona.
