THE Commission on Elections offices in Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro City has identified two possible nuisance candidates and would not be included in the ballots for the National and Local Elections next year.

Comelec identified the two as Rodulfo Alaan Basadre, Sr., a resident of City Homes Subdivision in Barangay Malanang, Opol town, and Wilson Ceritero Amad, a resident of Bellevue Subdivision in Upper Carmen, this city.

Basadre filed his Certificate of Candidacy for President while Amad filed his candidacy for Vice President. Both candidates are running independently.

Comelec’s Law Department has issued a summon to Basadre and Amad where they are asked why they should not be declared nuisance candidates next year.

Opol Municipal Election Officer Leah Jaum and Cagayan de Oro City Election Officer Atty. Ramil Acol are both tasked by Comelec’s Law Department to serve the summons to Basadre and Amad, respectively.

Jaum told Gold Star Daily that she has already delivered Basadre’s summon to his residence in Opol.

Pero wala man siya (Basadre) sa ilang balay kay tua kuno siya sa Davao, mao tong ang summon ako lang gibilin sa sinaligan sa ilang balay,” Jaum said.

For his part, Acol has yet to confirm if he had served the summon of Amad.

Misamis Oriental Election Officer Atty. Carlito Ravelo explained that the summons of the commission’s Law Department for Basadre and Amad aims to give both candidates a chance to air their side on the issue.

He said the commission stands as the “official complainant” against Basadre and Amad.

Ravelo added that based on the summon of Comelec, the commission has deemed that Basadre and Amad do not have the capacity and machinery to run a campaign for the two highest elective positions of the republic.
