CITY Council’s committee on social services chair Councilor Girlie Balaba today said the social welfare department (DSWD), through its field offices will continue to collaborate with the city government as partners to ensure the efficient and orderly education aid payout in the region.

The DSWD in region 10, according to Balaba has even intensified its collaboration with the top officials from different government agencies in Northern Mindanao to achieve a peaceful distribution of educational assistance.

“The DSWD and the city government are partners to ensure orderly education aid payout,” said Balaba.

Balaba even added she wanted a safe distribution of aid to students in crisis while adhering to existing minimum health and safety protocols amid the ongoing pandemic until September 24.

“Unta makatabang kita nga mahapsay ang pag-apod apod sa educational financial assistance as DSWD,” said Balaba adding that until the last Saturday of the educational aid payout of the agency.

It can be recalled that the DSWD signed a deal with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to tap LGUs in providing venues and security to guarantee the seamless and expeditious distribution of educational assistance, which is under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program of the DSWD.

Staying to her commitment to improving the implementation of the social protection programs, Balaba during the last regular session summoned DSWD-10 regional director Ramil Jamen to attend the upcoming session of the council.

“Posibleng mapahigayon nato ang mga lakang aron maminusan ang kahasol ug kalisod sa mga modawat sa ayuda,” said Balaba.

Earlier, DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo announced that the cash distribution will be done on six Saturdays starting August 20 and ending on September 24.

Balaba who is also the City Council’s labor and employment committee chair added that the second week of payout for the educational assistance was implemented peacefully with the help of the local government units

“The distribution of educational aid by the social welfare department in the city resumed on Saturday went smoothly,” said Balaba.

She also said the city government under Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy offered logistic support to the DSWD to streamline the delivery of aid.

More than 240 thousand are trying to take advantage of the program by registering online, because walk-ins are no longer accepted, according to Balaba.

“Daghan pa kini nga mga tinun-an nga naninguhang makadawat sa ayuda ug posibleng mahatagan nato sa kasayon sa ilang pagdawat,” said Balaba, adding that by inviting the DSWD at the City Council could also so help that the public will know the process and inform the people.
