POLICE authorities found a beheaded body lying in a grassy knoll at Purok 4, Barangay Calamcam in Talisayan, Misamis Oriental, about 200 meters along the national highway yesterday morning.

P/Maj. Arnold Gaabucayan, the town’s chief of police, identified the victim as Paterno O. Talines, ‘Toto,’ 61, married, and a resident of the said place.

The beheaded victim also sustained stabbed wounds to his abdomen, said Gaabucayan adding that the body has been sent to a local mortuary.

The authorities identified the suspect as a certain Junjun Casiño, 34, married, and a neighbor of the victim. The suspect used to live in Barangay Kusina, Talakag in Bukidnon.

In a statement, Misamis Oriental Provincial Director P/Col. Gonzalo Villamor, Jr said the crime occurred at about 10 pm on October 18 and that the victim and suspect were both intoxicated.

Villamor said witnesses told him the victim and suspect were partners in the construction services.

He said before the incident happened both the victim and the suspect had a drinking session at Top Z Place in the said barangay at around 9 pm, Tuesday after coming off from construction work.

A witness told Villamor that both the victim and the suspect were under the influence of intoxicating liquor and had a confrontation regarding their share of income in their construction services. This resulted in a heated argument.

The same witness said around 9:45 pm, the suspect (Casiño) returned to Top Z Place and brought with him a bolo with a scabbard, and shouted: “Asa man si manong gahi man kaha siya.”

By Wednesday, at around 5:45 am, the beheaded body of the victim was found about 20 meters north of his residence by one Norma Marquez, 70, married, and a victim’s neighbor.

Personnel of Misamis Oriental Provincial Forensic Unit discovered two bolos of different sizes and one wooden scabbard at the scene of the crime.

Villamor said the police have launched a pursuit operation against Casiño.

He added that he has directed the Talisayan chief of police to hasten the investigation to bring justice to the bereaved family.
