ILIGAN City ― The name of suspended BuCor chief Gen. Gerald Bantag these days has been taken in vain. Again and again. Because of this. Or because of that.

But mostly in connection with the notorious Percy Lapid story. More than one month after that slaying, the story still rages on air, on TV. on FB and other social media platforms.

And so, after he was no longer in the vicinity of the Bilibid facility, several things were discovered there. Like those contraband items 12,000 of them such as drugs, alcoholic beverages, weapons, cell phones, etc.

As if that was not enough, there were “diggings” too. Of some intriguing hole, no, not really some hole of sorts.

But a tunnel?

It was learned, from revelations from the team of acting BuCor chief there, Col. Leo Catapang that when interviewed by some reporter from a media outlet there, the said excavations which were of course dug during Bantag’s watch, who else, he said that it was for a “swimming pool.” Because, he, Bantag is a scuba diver.

To further hone his skills in that aspect? Oh, no this isn’t laughable anymore!

Especially the diggings there measured as much as 30 meters deep with 200 meters in width.

And this is done with the people’s money? To hone some special diving skills? Again, some expressions of “oh, no.” And maybe with some exclamation points!

And it extends a few meters away from the perimeter fence.

One can then make his own conclusions on the matter. Even if one adds in his conclusions and analysis that Bantag’s logic, is really, illogical. Sort of a lame reason for that uh ― tunneling? Like making some very hot business inside Bilibid? As in “Bilibid or not case?”

I find some sort of parallel story here in this city. It was then learned that when the Supreme Court issued that “cease and desist order” for the city on acts of ownership regarding the shuttered plant of the National Steel Corporation, there were or maybe still “are” people doing business there inside the 450 ha. area owned by the said plant. And these people, have collected rents, for the spaces they occupy there, as living or business transactions. Because “receipts”’ were issued to them. We don’t know if those “receipts” were “official” or not.

So, some people were making hay, while the sun shone? Maybe some people who had claimed victory on NSC by occupying it had done some business too. To hone their skills further in some business areas. Doing a Bantag, I should say.

It is highly impossible too that a tunnel has been dug in the NSC area like that in NBP. Because why dig some tunnel when you can do all those “Bilibid -like” transactions without that “tunneling” effort? Nah, but…but who knows?
