“If there is a deficiency, we will correct it and we will simplify it. I am open to the ideas of our colleagues,” said Goking.

Shortly after the poll result, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) region-10 director Wilhelm Suyko announced and proclaimed the winners.

Suyko was also the one who administered the oath-taking of the following newly elected regional council for northern Mindanao officials headed by Goking.

The new regional officers of PCL Region 10 were George Goking (CDO) – chairman, Lawyer Michelle N. Anayron (Misamis Oriental) – vice chairman, Samuel P. Huertas (Iligan City) – secretary, Armando S. Evangelista Jr. (Bukidnon) – Treasurer, Lyndon L. Abucay (Lanao del Norte) – Auditor, Jose Rufino B. Ladao (Camiguin) – Public Relations Officer.

Elected regional council directors were Lowida L. Alcalde of Misamis Occidental, Jeffrey S. Mahinay of Misamis Oriental, Ramil Emborong of Iligan City, Byron N. Atay of Lanao del Norte, Jesus B. Bas of Bukidnon, Melchor M. Corrales of Misamis Oriental, Servile M. Cabunoc of Bukidnon, Annamhel Monique C. Rosa of Misamis Occidental and Rico Valdon of Misamis Oriental.

Goking thanked the northern Mindanao councilors for supporting his candidacy.

“Councilor George (Goking) has been elected chairman of the Philippine Councilors’ League (PCL) region -10 unopposed,” said elected regional council public relations officer Jose Rufino Ladao.

Ladao said Goking is now serving his 3rd term of office as PCL president and elected twice as PCL regional council chair.

Goking said he wanted to organize an economic conference in the city as it is about to start in northern Mindanao and later a national economic summit.

Goking emphasized the need for the government’s policymakers “to sit down and discuss the looming economic crisis” due to the effect of the pandemic.

“To draw up both short-term and long-term solutions and like what the President (Ferdinand Marcos) said that 2022 is a banner year of economic recovery,” said Goking.

He said the country with Pres. Marcos managed to sustain positive growth amid increasing commodity prices.

The Latest fiscal reports said that private consumption expenditures have already surpassed pre-pandemic levels and continue to grow as the economy further opens and the government applies a calibrated approach to virus control.

“We need policies as steered by the the Pres. Marcos administration to ensure economic recovery,” said Goking.

Goking added a policy hailed by the majority of the population, especially the business community.

“This is what they need, especially the MSMEs, to recover from the impact of the pandemic,” said Goking.

Goking also explained that the Manila-based international lender Asian Development Bank (ADB) is expecting the Philippine economy to grow by 6.5 percent this year, a revision from its earlier projection of 6.0 percent.

According to ADB, Goking said that the country’s growth will be supported by strong domestic demand, a pick-up in employment rate, remittance inflows, private investment expansion, and large public infrastructure projects.

“We cannot wait any longer. Problems have to be addressed right away, or it will worsen and spiral out of control,” he stressed.

Goking, the city’s trade and commerce chairman, is the PCL city head and now PCL regional head for Northern Mindanao. He also sits on the PCL national board as a regional representative.

Goking said aside from the attendance of the PCL here in Northern Mindanao, the attendance of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his cabinet would be necessary to show the people that the new administration is “hitting the economic crunch head-on.”

If the PCL national board agrees to hold the national summit here, Goking vowed to personally make all the necessary arrangements for the convention site and accommodation sponsored by the PCL regional council-10.
