In an interview, Mindanao Technical-Vocational Education and Training (MinTVET) President Dr. Bonifacio Valdez spoke of the need for proximity in partaking in different challenges and nuances that come with each localized gap of TVET.

“Essentially, what we specifically hope to achieve in this year’s conference is to convene and mobilize all TVET leaders from different sectors to discuss current and future challenges in TVET; gather, elicit, and analyze insights, views, and ideas on gaps in TVET within the lens of TVET curriculum and industry needs and practices from different TVET experts; and share experiences on the challenges, recent innovations, trends and concerns in TVET,” Valdez said.

To aid in guiding participants of the two-day conference, National College of Science and Technology President Emerson Anastacio is set to speak on bridging the gaps between TVET and industry for the first day, and National Teachers College Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Edison Fermin on facing the challenges for TVET2030 on the second day. Each talk will include guest speakers, reactors, moderators, and a panel of interviewers for the duration of the conference.

This year’s conference, which banners the theme “Bridging the Gaps. Facing the Challenges. Towards Building a New Philippine TVET Culture,” is set at Acacia Hotel Davao.

For the organizers of the conference, the expected outcomes of the discussion should shed light on issues that TVET faces with gaps in skills in the competency-based curriculum, produce info regarding the industry practices related to TVET, generate solutions for learners and the institution, as well as giving resolutions for interlinked concerns. Dr. Valdez hopes that this will give TVET the ability to “pinpoint objectively the gaps that persistently occur and arrive at solutions that are not universal and linear, but are instead intentional and well-suited to the problem or gap that it is addressing.”
