A 49-year-old jeepney mechanic was killed instantly when the motorcycle he was driving slid on a gravel-laded road in Misamis Oriental yesterday.

Police Senior Master Sgt. Arnel Acero, the traffic investigator assigned to the Tagoloan Municipal Police, identified the victim as Johnny Alfeche, a native of Purok 5, Barangay Pay-as, Kadingilan, Bukidnon province.

The incident took place along the National Highway at Barangay Casinglot, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental at 1:30 pm, Tuesday.

Acero said the incident happened when the victim overtook a speeding tricab but unfortunately the motorcycle he was driving slid off due to the scattered gravel on the said road.

“Sa dihang natumba na siya naligsan pud siya usa ka truck nga nagsunod sa iya,” Acero said.

It was Alfeche’s head that was fatally hit. The helmet that he had worn was also broken into pieces due to the impact.

He was rushed to St. Paul hospital in Tagoloan only to be declared dead upon arrival.

Meanwhile, the truck driver, identified as Nequil Dalunhao, 43 of Talakag, Bukidnon, told police the accident happened so suddenly.

He said he tried to stop his vehicle in order not to hit the victim but it was too late.

Acero said the drivers of the tricab and the truck will be facing cases of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
