MAYOR Klarex Uy issued Executive Order No. 024-2023 on January 30, 2023, reconstituting and reorganizing the City’s Task Group Demolition. The main function of this task group is to clear roads, highways, alleys, sidewalks, and all other areas covered by the definition of “highways” in the Revised Philippine Highways Act and other laws.

This, therefore, needless to state, includes those under the jurisdiction of the City. On the local level, road clearing operations have continuously been conducted by the Roads and Traffic Administration pursuant to City Ordinance No. 10551-2007.

It may be recalled that the DILG issued Memorandum No. 2020-027 on the continued implementation of the presidential directive on road clearing. The operations however slowed down because of the pandemic.

Paraphrasing Mayor Klarex, sa pagserbisyo sa katawhan, subayon gihapon nato ang balaod.

Today, the road-clearing operations have been reborn with this writer sitting as the chairperson and Councilor John Michael Seno, chairman of the city committee that looks into engineering infrastructures, as the co-chairperson.

A good tandem for a good team, I would say.

Sitting as members are Building Official Joel Momongan, City Engineer Jenito Asequia, City Administrator Roy Raagas, Cocpo City Director Aaron Mandia, City Legal Officer Kenneth Tamala, RTA Assistant Department Head Nits Oclarit, City Health Officer Rachel Dilla, and Social Welfare Head Annie Tongson.

To complete the membership are City Information Officer Ivy Guantero, CHUDD Head Sam Rollo, Councilor, and Liga Pres. Alam Lim, Night Market Management Committee Chair Eric Salcedo, City Legal Special Investigator Ton Resma, the City Fire Marshall, the Kapisanan nga mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas President, and the IBP President.

The Enforcement Division Chief of the Office of the Building Official, aided by personnel of that office, will provide Secretariat services to the task group.

Very soon, the task group will roll its sleeves ang buckle down to work.
