SPENDING five days on the road and in another city with family is quite a rewarding experience and a much-deserved break from the daily challenges of work and tasks.
Timed with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines National Convention at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City, we also took a break to recharge our batteries.
A road trip with son Atty. OJ and his family (wife Dotie and kids Caleb Jose and Adalia Julienne), son Jose (Jojo to many), and nephew and niece Raymond and Mayang Curilan are a much rewarding time off from work. Sadly, my eldest son Jeiu (and wife Eleanor with daughter Gabrielle) could not make it. They were scheduled to dedicate Gabrielle to the Lord which had to take precedence.
The IBP convention saw many pañeros and pañeras in their most elegant get up – the Americana and Filipiniana attires.
We, on the other hand, had to spend some time in the crocodile park, the upside-down museum, Paradise Island, the Magsaysay fruit stand, and the famous Lola Abon outlet, among other sights and places.
Work however cannot be totally left unattended. Directions had to be set, follow-throughs made, and reminders sent in order to keep the pace constantly grinding. Technology really made the world smaller.
On our way home, my beautiful sister Estrella Pahalla, the DOLE 10 Assistant Regional Director, her ever-supportive husband Arnold, and son Jaireh James with daughter-in-law Charlene also played hosts to us.
On our way to Davao City, we had lunch at the Kabawan of the Pahallas in Maramag, Bukidnon compliments of Arnold, Trell, Jaireh, and Charlene. The signature dish of the Kabawan is the delicious lauyang kabaw.
It was a road trip worth remembering even as everyone smelled like durians.
